Everton in ‘genuine concern’ after Calvert-Lewin and Mangala injury v Brighton

Everton have “genuine concern” after Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Orel Magala picked up injuries against Brighton in the Premier League, David Moyes shared.

The Toffees boss revealed that the striker and midfielder will need to be assessed after the 1-0 win over the Seagulls at Amex on Saturday (25 January).

It has been suggested that Calvert-Lewin suffered a hamstring injury while the midfielder picked up a knock to his knee.

Relaying Moyes’ comments after the win, Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas wrote on his personal X account (25 January): “Calvert-Lewin suffered a hamstring injury versus Brighton, Mangala a knee injury. Initial reaction of Moyes is that both are of genuine concern.

“Says they both need to be assessed, but initial worry over their condition casting a shadow over a big win for Everton.”

The Blues got three valuable points against the Seagulls as Iliman Ndiaye’s penalty in the first half was enough to seal the victory.

Calvert-Lewin was substituted in the 13th minute for Beto, with Mangala playing the entire fixture for the Merseyside outfit.

The Goodison Park faithful will be concerned about the England international’s absence, as the Guinean striker was underwhelmed after replacing him.

Everton have relied on a rather stable engine room with Mangala, Idrissa Gueye and Abdoulaye Doucoure the preferred trio.

James Garnes returned to action at the Amex Stadium, which will be encouraging for Moyes, who will evidently have to make changes in the upcoming game.

The Toffees have a relatively easy fixture against a struggling Leicester on 1 February, and three points against the relegation rivals could prove massive at the end of the season.

If Calvert-Lewin’s injury is potentially serious, the Blues should reinforce their attack before the winter transfer window ends.
