Everton player ratings v Brighton: Doucoure flops, Branthwaite shines
Iliman Ndiaye scored the winner as Everton beat Brighton 1-0 at the AmEx Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
After not being given a penalty, the Toffees saw a VAR intervention leading to the award of a spot kick which Ndiaye calmly slotted home.
David Moyes’ side then defended well and kept a clean sheet to pick up the three points on 25 January.
Here are our player ratings from the game:
Jordan Pickford – 7
Made an important save and also got under the skin of Brighton fans and players as he ruffled feathers at the AmEx.
Jake O’Brien – 7
A spirited defensive display from him playing out of position at right-back.
James Tarkowski – 7
A backs to the wall job for Tarkowski but one he did really well without letting too much through on Pickford’s goal.
Jarrad Branthwaite – 9
Looked back to his best for the Toffees as he put in a solid and spirited performance from start to end.
Vitalii Mykolenko – 6
Made a few careless passes but apart from that, it was a solid display on the defensive side of things.
Orel Mangala – 5
A decent display in the middle of the park until he picked up an injury and could not carry on.
Idrissa Gueye – 7
Solid with his passes and also put his body on the line and won the majority of the duels in the game.
Jesper Lindstrom – 5
Got done time and again as he failed to execute a lot of what he planned to do in the final third.
Abdoulaye Doucoure – 3
Doucoure seemed like a liability for the Toffees as he was a passenger without possession and even in possession, he did little to nothing.
Iliman Ndiaye – 7
Calmly scored the penalty and always looked to make things happen in the final third.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – N/A
Played just 13 minutes before he had to be taken off due to an injury and was replaced by Beto.
Subs
Beto – 5
Seemed to be chasing down lost causes in the game, but still appeared to give it his best.
Nathan Patterson – 4
Struggled after coming on as he misplaced a couple of passes and seemed to get bullied in possession.
Ashley Young – 4
Much like Patterson, looked extremely shaky on the ball once he came off the bench.
James Garner – 5
Threw his body on the line and did well to ensure his side kept a clean sheet.
