Jamie O’Hara says Tottenham embarrassing after Everton win today
Everton beating Brighton to move to within a point of Tottenham in the Premier League table is “embarrassing”, Jamie O’Hara has said.
Speaking on talkSPORT (25 January, 5:52pm) with Tony Bellew, O’Hara did his best to let the boxer and Toffees fan know that David Moyes’ side are still behind Spurs despite their 1-0 win at the Amex Stadium.
With both the Blues and Tottenham having played 22 matches this term, with the latter yet to feature in matchweek 23, Bellew was quick to mention the financial disparities between the two sides.
O’Hara said: “[We’re] still above you in the table mate.”
“That’s getting closer mate,” Bellew hit back; “I mean you’ve spent about 20 times more money than us being totally honest, haven’t you, so it doesn’t really add up to much, I don’t know what you’re going to do.”
Jermaine Pennant added: “Only a point in it as well, there’s only a point in it mate.”
“I know, it’s embarrassing”, O’Hara replied.
Everton starting to march towards Premier League safety
Other than Southampton being all-but a sure thing to go down given they’ve won just six points from 23 games so far, the Premier League relegation battle can and will still take plenty of twists and turns.
However, the confidence of Evertonians will be sky-high after their turnaround in recent weeks, and victory over Brighton moves them seven points clear of the current bottom three.
Although their narrow 1-0 win at the Amex came in controversial circumstances, David Moyes’ side winning consecutive matches for the first time this season has given them a welcome cushion.
The first of those two teams beaten was of course O’Hara’s Tottenham in a deserved 3-2 victory at Goodison Park last weekend, and it’s no surprise to see out-of-form Spurs fans worried about the Blues.
With just one point in it and the Toffees potentially having the chance to overtake the Lilywhites with their game in hand, things are looking up – rather than down – for the first time in a long time at Goodison.
