Moyes makes bold O’Brien call – Everton confirmed XI v Brighton
David Moyes has chosen to make no changes to his Everton starting line-up for their Premier League clash against Brighton on Saturday.
Last time out, the Toffees put in a rather impressive performance when they came out of their Premier League game against Tottenham as 3-2 winners.
The team was solid across the board with the defensive line putting in a more than solid shift despite conceding two goals.
The Toffees announced their line-up via their official X account (25 January) to take on the Seagulls at the Amex.
While no changes being made doesn’t come as all that much of a surprise, it feels like a rather bold call to keep Jake O’Brien in at right-back despite the availability of Ashley Young and Nathan Patterson.
The Irishman was hardly trusted to start by Dyche and against Spurs, he was arguably the weakest player in the back four but evidently, Moyes must be able to see something in him that he can work with and develop otherwise he wouldn’t be in the team once again.
Everton must leave Brighton with all three points
Now that Moyes has had a chance to bed himself in and get used to the talent he has at his disposal, it feels like we could start to see a new side to Everton.
The 2024/25 season has been an unforgiving one for the Merseyside outfit as they currently sit 16th in the Premier League.
Saturday’s game (25 January) against Fabian Hurzeler’s men will no doubt be an entertaining affair but it also needs to be one where the Toffees can prove their worth to their fans.
They’ve put them through hell and back this season and a win at the Amex would certainly go a long way towards rectifying the problems that have emerged.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be a player to keep a close eye on throughout the game after his industrious performance against Spurs last week.
Only time will tell what the footballing gods have in store for the Scotsman and his team but if they can leave with all three points, it’ll be a job well done.
It just feels like he could possibly have made an error that might prove costly but let’s hope that isn’t the case.
