Kevin Thelwell ‘finished’ at Everton as Moyes spotted with potential successor
Kevin Thelwell might already know his time as Director of Football at Everton has come to a conclusion under The Friedkin Group.
The new owners have already endeared themselves to the supporters by replacing Sean Dyche, who had sleepwalked the Toffees into another Premier League relegation battle.
David Moyes has secured impressive back-to-back victories over Tottenham and Brighton, boosting the team seven points above the dropzone, which has raised the roof at Goodison Park.
However, one figure who might suffer under the new ownership is 47-year-old Thelwell, and Moyes has just created a whirlwind of speculation after being pictured with his potential successor.
The Esk suggested via X [10 January] that Brighton’s David Weir would be the man to take over, and the Toffees manager was spotted talking to him at the Amex Stadium on Saturday 25 January [Chris Beesley].
The Brighton Sporting Director has been hugely successful during his time on the coast, and Thelwell might now just be accepting his fate on Merseyside.
Kevin Thelwell finished as Everton Director of Football?
The Toffees are crying out for a complete reset at Goodison Park, wiping the slate clean after Dyche’s long-awaited exit, and TFG have proven they are not ones to dither on decisions.
Thelwell certainly deserves a lot of praise for some of the business done in recent windows, signing the likes of Iliman Ndiaye, Tim Iroegbunam and Orel Mangala on loan.
But all good things must come to an end, and Thelwell must know he is close to being finished in his role at Goodison Park, especially now images of Moyes and Weir have emerged.
Of course, their relationship goes back decades, with Weir playing under the Scot at Everton, but that means a move for the Brighton figure makes all the more sense now.

TFG need to make a good impression, especially now moving into the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium and attempting to create a real powerhouse on Merseyside, but they need the experienced figures to do so.
It would certainly be a cruel ending for the current Director of Football but the sport is extremely cut-throat.
