Evan Ferguson to Everton: David Ornstein drops transfer update as reveal made

Everton are keen on signing Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton during the ongoing transfer window, according to David Ornstein.

The journalist revealed via The Athletic’s website (28 January) that the Seagulls are also considering letting the 20-year-old leave on loan before the window closes on 3 February.

However, the Toffees are not viewed among the favourites to sign the Ireland international, although a move within the Premier League is the most likely option as things stand.

Ferguson has interest from West Ham and Bournemouth among other English clubs, while Bundesliga teams are also monitoring his situation.

Everton to miss out on Evan Ferguson

There is no doubt that David Moyes will welcome Ferguson’s signing at Everton with open arms as goalscoring has been a problem for the Toffees this season.

Moreover, Dominic Calvert-Lewin joined Armando Broja on the treatment table after going off injured in the 1-0 win against Brighton on Saturday (25 January), while Beto already has an agreement with Torino [Tuttosport].

Therefore, signing a centre-forward for the second half of the season is quickly becoming a necessity for the Goodison Park outfit as they look to avoid relegation.

The Irishman, who has bagged 17 goals and five assists from 79 appearances across all competitions for Brighton, would also add Premier League experience to Moyes’ squad.

However, it appears Everton are set to miss out on Ferguson’s signing, with either a reunion with Graham Potter at West Ham or a stint with seventh-placed Bournemouth on the cards for him.

The Merseyside-based club are, therefore, better off turning their attention towards alternative targets in the final days of the winter transfer window.
