Everton exits latest as Beto to Roma update shared
Roma are no longer interested in signing Everton forward Beto in the winter transfer window, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Italian news outlet reported in its print edition on Tuesday [28 January, pg 12] that Roma abandoned their pursuit of Beto “weeks ago” after being left unconvinced by the forward.
The Serie A outfit were previously believed to be a “concrete” option for Beto having held talks with his representatives [Calciomercato], but are no longer in the race with rivals Torino still hopeful of striking a deal this month.
Everton and Beto in transfer stand-off
Kevin Thelwell has haggled with interested parties for Beto’s signature throughout the transfer window, and now his future at Goodison Park could be taken away from him.
David Moyes has been dealt “the worst possible outcome” for the Toffees as Dominic Calvert-Lewin joins Armando Broja on the sidelines.
Although Everton agreed Beto could leave in the current window [Tuttosport], Moyes is looking to recruit a new striker in the final days before the 3 February deadline – it is unlikely he will be able to find two should the Guinea Bissau international return to Italy.
Therefore, the 26-year-old will have to bide his time on Merseyside until the end of the season, when he will undoubtedly be allowed to leave.

However, the current injury situation allows Beto to right his wrongs at Goodison Park or, at the very least, leave himself in a strong position for the summer transfer window.
With no competition in his way, Beto will be Everton’s leading man until another centre-forward arrives through the door – in the off-chance that doesn’t happen, serious first-team involvement will be in his future.
And with the list of interested parties dwindling, this could be an outcome that benefits all involved.
