Everton star ‘could be set for controversial exit’ before transfer window closes

Jack Harrison could make a “controversial” early return to Leeds United if they fail to sign any of their other transfer targets, according to Ian Herbert.

Writing in the Daily Mail (28 January), Herbert argued that despite Leeds having a lengthy wishlist as the window comes to a close, Harrison could in fact be the most likely player who pitches up at Elland Road.

Harrison is yet to score or assist for the Toffees in his second successive loan spell at Goodison Park, and despite looking settled on Merseyside, the 28-year-old could yet head back to his parent club.

In an article titled ‘Leeds United’s most likely January transfer now looks to be the controversial return of a former fans’ favourite who’s fallen on hard times’, Herbert wrote: “They badly want a striker – and also seek a left back, centre back, central midfielder and winger. PSR means they could end up with none.

“Jack Harrison, shot on confidence after a torrid period on loan at Everton, may be the once heading to Leeds.”

Jack Harrison exit wouldn’t cause much upset at Everton

While Harrison became a favourite of Sean Dyche having scored four times in 35 appearances during last season’s loan spell on Merseyside, goals and praise have been much harder to come by this term.

It’s perhaps telling that the winger’s last appearance came in David Moyes’ first – a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa – and he hasn’t featured since as the Blues picked up back-to-back wins over Spurs and Brighton.

Few Toffees fans would be displeased to see Harrison depart if it means potentially securing another winger before the window closes, with the right flank having long been a priority in terms of transfers.

Furthermore, an early exit back to Leeds would also be highly convenient for the Blues with regards to their loan spots, with Harrison and the currently-injured Armando Broja taking up their domestic quota.

Sending Broja back to Chelsea looks unlikely [Alan Myers, 25 January], and if Harrison is moved on, it would free up a valuable spot for Moyes to strengthen his frontline before the winter window slams shut.
