Evan Ferguson transfer: Everton update shared amid PSR news
Everton signing Brighton striker Evan Ferguson on a permanent transfer this window is “out of the question”, according to Daily Mirror journalist David Anderson.
Anderson’s report in the Mirror (29 January) states that the Toffees are one of several clubs interested in signing the Republic of Ireland international before the 3 February deadline.
However, given Everton already have Jack Harrison and Armando Broja on loan they have no space to make another temporary domestic signing, while the “financial straitjacket” of PSR means they don’t have the means to do a full deal.
Anderson wrote: “David Moyes must wrestle with the financial straitjacket of PSR as he tries to boost Everton’s firepower.
“Moyes does have some money to spend, but stretching that to cover the quality of forward Everton want is extremely difficult. Moyes is not interested in bringing in more bodies just to boost the size of his squad while Everton grapple with an injury crisis.
“Everton continue to be linked with Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, who has scored just once from his 14 appearances, and virtually everyone is interested in the Republic of Ireland hitman.
“But Everton do not have a berth to take him on loan and a permanent deal is out of the question in January.”
Everton struggle to get Evan Ferguson done
It seems like every man and his dog wants to sign the 20-year-old striker before the transfer window shuts on Monday.
West Ham have been heavily linked with his signature, though Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be eyeing a deal.
The good news is from Everton’s point of view that Brighton are seemingly ready to do business, whether that be a full transfer or a loan deal.
The bad news is that, even though they passed PSR checks for 2023-24, they are seemingly still treading too close to the financial rules to strike a permanent deal.

And with complications over loan spots, it just feel like time is well against them if they were to look for a deal until the end of the season.
David Moyes does need reinforcements to his frontline before Monday’s deadline passes but the club will have to box clever to ensure that happens.
