Allardyce namedrops Lukaku as Moyes issue highlighted at Everton
Sam Allardyce has namedropped Romelu Lukaku after claiming that Everton haven’t had a regular goalscorer since the Belgian played for the blue half of Merseyside.
One of the Toffees’ main problems for the past couple of seasons is the lack of consistency they’ve had from their number nines with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin often being sidelined due to injury.
This season, they tried to rectify that by bringing in Armando Broja but the Albanian has been of no use to Everton at the moment as most of the time he’s spent at the club has been while he’s injured.
Speaking live on talkSPORT (31 January, 08:39am), Allardyce shared why it’s a “great shame” that the Toffees don’t have a reliable number nine.
“David’s big problem is the fact that he hasn’t had a goal scorer and there hasn’t been a goalscorer there since I was there,” Allardyce said.
“They haven’t had a goalscorer since [Romelu] Lukaku got sold and that’s a great shame for Everton and that’s what they need more than anything else.
“Where do you [even] find one?”
Everton need a new striker at Goodison Park soon
When the 2024/25 season kicked off, many thought that Everton had far too many number nines within their ranks to be fighting it out for one spot in the starting XI.
However, now that three of the Toffees’ four options are now out injured, there’s only Beto left to carry the weight of the team on his shoulders.
The Guinea-Bissau international has had a tough time since making the move to England from Udinese t, it feels like he gives his all in each game he’s played, even if the quality is sometimes sadly lacking from the front man.

There are still three and a half days left of the winter transfer window and if David Moyes wants to continue saving Everton’s season and perhaps drag them out of the relegation battle, a new striker could be key to that.
So, if Everton can source a new focal point, the two will have to battle it out to see who can be deemed as the Merseyside outfit’s main source of goals in the absence of Calvert-Lewin.
