Andy Dunn fumes at Everton controversy v Brighton – ‘killjoy act’
Andy Dunn has hit out at Tim Robinson and dubbed him a “killjoy” for booking Iliman Ndiaye for his seagull celebration in the Premier League clash between Everton and Brighton on Saturday.
The attacking midfielder was the difference maker in the clash with his penalty being the only thing that separated the teams at the Amex Stadium.
Writing for The Daily Mirror’s website (31 January), Dunn shared his thoughts on the booking the Senegal international received.
“Michael Oliver’s red card for Myles Lewis-Skelly was not the only controversial refereeing decision of last weekend – another came at the Amex Stadium where Tim Robinson booked Iliman Ndiaye for a celebration that featured the Everton midfielder imitating a seagull. And I am only half-joking,” Dunn wrote.
“I am no fan of seagulls myself but is that really any sort of provocative offence? Booking players for what they do in celebration is, by its very nature, a killjoy act, although Robinson would no doubt argue that – as Ndiaye also cupped his ear – the Everton player was inciting the home fans.
“But even so, how can a player be sanctioned for flapping his arms in the style of a bird while others go unsanctioned for pretending to unload rounds of machine gun fire?”
Iliman Ndiaye is key to Everton at the moment
With the absence of Dwight McNeil a continuing issue for the Toffees, Ndiaye has become an integral part of the way that Everton play.
The duo were by far and away the Toffees’ best players at the start of the season but since McNeil has been ruled out, it feels like the Senegal international has really taken on the attacking onus.
While fans were calling for the forward to be used in attacking midfield, it seems that Sean Dyche was right about using him on the left wing as his pace, alongside his keen eye for a pass, are just two things that make him an ideal winger for the Premier League.

And, it goes without saying that if he wasn’t part of the squad, Everton would more than likely be far worse off than where they currently find themselves.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Ndiaye and Everton but as long as he can keep up his run of form, everything should work out just fine.
