David Weir backed to seal Everton return in TFG switch-up
Bryan King has backed Brighton’s Technical Director David Weir to reunite with David Moyes at Everton.
The ex-Goodison scout thinks the Everton boss will want to work with someone he knows well, rather than Kevin Thelwell – who isn’t expected to last long with Moyes [via The Esk, 11 January].
Ahead of the Toffees’ 1-0 Premier League win against Brighton at the AMEX Stadium on Saturday (25 January), Moyes was spotted talking to Weir [via Chris Beesley, 25 January], who has been mooted to replace Thelwell at Goodison Park [via The Esk, 10 January].
Therefore, King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – wouldn’t be surprised to see the Brighton chief make a return to Merseyside.
“Weir was at Everton before, when I was there,” King said.
“I know Weir. He has done a good job at Brighton and is the sort of person I could see working well with Moyes because he worked with him previously at Everton and left when he left.
“Therefore, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him return, let’s put it like that. Moyes doesn’t know Thelwell, but he certainly knows Weir. I wouldn’t doubt that Moyes wants to bring in someone he knows, and Weir would certainly fit the bill.”

Moyes will be influential in any new hirings behind the scenes at Goodison Park, especially after an agreement which was tied into his contract when he returned to the club.
Therefore, if the Toffees are looking to replace Thelwell, it is hard to look much further than Weir.
Moyes knows the Brighton Technical Director well, and his recommendation will no doubt go a long way.
As a result, supporters should be optimistic, as the appointment of Weir would represent an exciting boost for the future of the club’s recruitment.
