Everton boss David Moyes set for Finch Farm transfer announcement on Friday

David Moyes is set to confirm if Everton have terminated Orel Magala’s loan deal on Friday, according to Giulia Bould.

Mangala, 26, has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season after suffering an ACL injury late in the win over Brighton at the weekend.

The 23-times Belgium international has been a key player for the Blues this season, playing in every single match he’s been available for since securing his season-long loan move from Lyon on deadline day in August.

However, as he’s on loan, he’s taking up a vital loan spot in Moyes’ squad and terminating that agreement in light of his injury will free up space to do business in the final days of the winter transfer window.

When asked if Mangala’s deal has been cut short early, BBC Merseyside Sport journalist Bould said: “We will find out tomorrow (Friday) at the presser.”

Everton fans to discover Mangala fate in in Moyes press conference

It makes a lot of sense for Mangala’s deal to be terminated.

Everton might have to pay a fee to send him back to Lyon earlier than anticipated but it’s likely to be minimal if that’s the case and the cost of doing so is more than justified.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also injured right now so the Toffees are absolutely desperate to add to Moyes’ squad before the winter transfer window shuts at 11pm on Monday (3 February).

The Blues are allowed two overseas loanees and two domestic loanees in their squad.

Jesper Lindstrom (Napoli), Jack Harrison (Leeds) and Armando Broja (Chelsea) are the other four.

Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has previously reported that Broja will stay at Goodison Park to recover from his injury while Leeds are unlikely to want to recall Harrison.

That means that Everton could be locked into keeping those two on loan – unless they decide to turn their temporary contracts on Merseyside into permanent ones.

As a result, Kevin Thelwell will have to replace Mangala with another overseas loan if the Belgian’s deal is cut short.

It’s really not ideal for Everton when they’re already struggling to bring people in due to PSR restrictions and the inflated prices of the winter transfer market.
