L’Equipe share update on Lyon recall for Mangala after Everton injury news

Orel Mangala is not set to return to parent club Lyon from Everton despite picking up an injury, according to L’Equipe.

The French news outlet reported (31 January) that despite a rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament, there are currently no plans for him to return to France.

The midfielder’s season is over due to his injury, though, and he will consult with a specialist over the coming days to determine the next stages.

Everton won’t send Orel Mangala despite injury blow

Mangala’s injury will have come as a massive blow to David Moyes and his team at Goodison Park after the midfielder was able to establish himself as a regular first-team player in Merseyside this term.

The 26-year-old has made 19 Premier League appearances this term, scoring one goal and no doubt would have been eager to keep his side in the top flight.

In fact, his levels of performance for the Blues led to Bryan King arguing that the Toffees could make the loan deal a permanent one in order to boost their squad going forward.

This is certainly a more uncertain situation going forward now, though, with the ability for the new boss to really assess him gone.

The fact he hasn’t gone back to Lyon suggests that there could be some long-term interest from the Toffees but this could largely depend on the outcome of a meeting with the specialist.

Thankfully for the Blues, James Garner has recently returned from injury so there is cover in the squad as they look to retain their Premier League status this term.

In other Everton news, the club want to sign a midfield gem.
