Everton 4-0 Leicester City: ‘Inexcusable’ moment called out at Goodison Park
Leicester City were “shocking” defensively at Goodison Park as Everton won 4-0 in the Premier League, Rob Tanner says.
The Athletic journalist slammed the Foxes as they conceded twice in quick succession at the start of the first half against the Toffees on Saturday (1 February).
Abdoulaye Doucoure scored just 10 seconds into the match, and Beto doubled the Blues’ advantage in the sixth minute before his brace prior to the break.
Tanner wrote on his personal X account (1 February): “2-0 Everton. More shocking defending. Inexcusable at this level.
“The first was bad — a long ball down the middle — but one ball in behind has opened them up for the second.”
Everton dismantle Leicester at Goodison Park
The Merseysiders put in their best performance of the season in the opening 45 minutes as Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team looked out of sorts.
David Moyes had the team pushing for more goals despite their early two-goal lead, highlighting a difference from the Sean Dyche era.
Over the course of the campaign, the Toffees have struggled to find the back of the net consistently, but that hasn’t been an issue under the Scottish manager.
Everton seem more likely to avoid relegation now than they did under Dyche, which is a testament to the work Moyes has done in a short span of time.

Despite Beto being the only fit natural number nine in the squad, the Scotsman has managed to get the best out of the attack.
The Blues have opened up a significant gap between themselves and the relegation zone, which will encourage the Goodison faithful to think about what’s to come next season.
