Everton make approach for Sean Longstaff transfer, already received response
Everton have made an approach for Sean Longstaff and have already learned the midfielder’s stance on leaving Newcastle United, according to TBR Football.
The online outlet revealed (1 February) that the 27-year-old, who was once labelled as “magnificent” by Stuart Pearce on talkSPORT (2 November, 14:33 pm), is set to stay on Tyneside rather than joining the Toffees.
Longstaff is said to have made clear his desire to remain with the Magpies until at least at the summer, casting doubt on Everton’s chances of signing him before the deadline.
The Blues are desperate for cover in midfield before the 3 February deadline after on-loan Belgian ace Orel Mangala was ruled out for the rest of the season.
Everton need midfield cover before the deadline
David Moyes received a major boost with James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam returning to the squad for the clash with Leicester on 1 February.
However, given the duo’s fitness issues so far this campaign it would be wise to strengthen in the engine room before the deadline.
With Mangala leaving in the summer regardless of his injury and Idrissa Gana Gueye and Abdoulaye Doucoure’s contracts expiring in six months, the Blues need midfield additions for next season.

They have already agreed on a loan-to-buy deal for Carlos Alcaraz, who impressed when at Southampton in the 2023/24 season, with the Argentian set to undergo a medical. [Bruno Lemos]
However, they need more bodies in midfield given the contract situation and the injury issues that they had so far this season.
Whether they can do so before the deadline remains to be seen, but Longstaff will not be moving to Goodison Park.
In other Everton news, the Blues have reportedly made a double approach for a Bundesliga transfer.
