Everton want to sign Sunderland gem as £2m offer rejected in new transfer update

Everton have joined the race to sign Sunderland gem Tom Watson, according to TBR Football.

The online source reports [1 February] that the Toffees are facing competition from Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Brighton, with the latter already seeing an offer rejected.

It is understood the Seagulls saw their offer of around £2million rejected earlier this week, with the club ready to return for a new bid, but David Moyes’ side remain in the race.

Everton join race to sign Championship prospect

The 18-year-old, who has 18 months left on his current contract at the Stadium of Light, has attracted interest from the Premier League after multiple impressive first-team performances.

He already has two Championship goals to his name despite only making six starts and four more substitute appearances, notching twice against Stoke City to win all three points.

Watson has taken to the Championship like a duck to water, much like many of the young talents currently at Regis Le Bris’ disposal, playing alongside the likes of Jobe Bellingham and Trai Hume.

Sunderland have done incredibly well to keep hold of their young and exciting talents, but with so many Premier League teams interested, that is about to become so much more difficult.

With the Toffees in desperate need of a new right-winger – Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom failing to impress this season – Watson could alleviate some of the pressure out wide.

The 18-year-old mainly plays on the left-hand side and at attacking midfield, but if the Toffees were to sign him, he would likely occupy the opposite flank or follow in Dwight McNeil’s footsteps.

If the Blues are to strike a deal for the young winger, they will need to act fast with Brighton preparing a second bid for him before the winter transfer window closes on 3 February.
