Everton sources make David Moyes admission after transfer deadline

David Moyes was reluctant to spend money on players who wouldn’t add much to Everton on transfer deadline day, according to iNews.

The news outlet reports (3 February) that the Toffees wanted to do more business, but the Scottish manager didn’t want to spend limited funds on players who wouldn’t add quality.

Carlos Alcaraz was the only signing the Blues made, with his loan move with an option to buy from Flamengo finally announced after the deadline.

Everton business in winter transfer window enough for David Moyes

While the Goodison Park faithful would have wanted to see more bodies come through the door at L4, it seems like Moyes is happy with what he’s got.

It’s evident that the Merseyside outfit needed to bolster certain positions, but the Scotsman looks confident of achieving his goals with the squad at his disposal.

Beto is the only natural number nine fit at the moment, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti on the sidelines.

The Toffees could have done with another striker in the winter window, and supporters will hope the Guinea-Bissau star doesn’t pick up a knock in the coming weeks.

Everton have also lost Orel Mangala as he made his way back to France following a season-ending injury after the 1-0 win over Brighton on 25 January.

James Garner was straight back into the starting line-up as the Blues beat Leicester City 4-0 last time out, as his consistent fitness issues will concern fans.

Alcaraz will provide much-needed cover in the engine room until the end of the campaign, and his experience in the Premier League with Southampton will definitely be helpful.

One can’t help but wonder, though, that the Merseysiders may have left themselves short after their transfer activity.
