Idrissa Gueye contract: Everton update as ‘likely’ outcome revealed

Idrissa Gueye is one of the several players whose contract at Everton expires at the end of the season.

The 35-year-old has been a key player for the Toffees this season but is arguably past the prime of his career, with a potential successor needed in the transfer market.

David Moyes will seemingly be looking towards The Friedkin Group (TFG) to see who they retain at the end of the season.

Will Idrissa Gueye extend his contract?

Gueye is one of the players likely to stay at Everton beyond the current campaign, Graeme Bailey says.

The TBR Football journalist has revealed that the Senegalese veteran will potentially be part of the Merseyside outfit’s squad in the summer.

Bailey also expects the Toffees to push and try to retain Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure, who are also in the final months of their deals.

Speaking to Everton News (6 February), Bailey said: “Calvert-Lewin — they want to keep, but I would not rule out Gueye or Doucoure, I think the former is most likely to stay.”

Everton rely on Idrissa Gueye

While the Blues haven’t made the best of decisions regarding recruitment over the years, Gueye is one of the players who has lived up to expectations.

The 35-year-old returned to Everton after a spell at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and has been an influential player ever since.

Despite his age, the Senegalese midfielder has continued to play an effective role in the engine room as the Goodison Park faithful hope to avoid relegation.

Gueye has made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Blues this season as they sit nine points above 18th-place Leicester City.

Orel Mangala recently suffered a serious injury, and Moyes revealed that the Olympique Lyon loanee was set to return to France.

The 26-year-old’s fitness issues arguably make the former PSG star’s continuity even more essential.

James Garner made an impressive comeback into the starting lineup as the Merseysiders beat the Foxes 4-0 at home on 1 February, but his consistent injuries will surely be a cause for concern for Moyes.

Carlos Alcaraz has also been signed on loan with an obligation to buy Flamengo, demonstrating that TFG are already planning for the future.
