PGMOL outrage: Ex-Everton chief rages over Goodison incident after meeting held

Bryan King has called for VAR to be suspended after a recent reveal involving Everton.

The ex-Goodison scout has criticised the people running VAR, with Premier League bosses admitting to 13 mistakes this season [via Liverpool Echo, 5 February].

One of those 13 mistakes came in the 0-0 draw between Everton and Brentford at Goodison Park on Saturday 23 November, with the red card shown to Christian Nørgaard – which was late overturned after an appeal – deemed to be a mistake.

Therefore, King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – doesn’t think VAR should be used until these mistakes are eradicated, while the former Everton chief also shared details of a meeting in Norway.

“We don’t seem to have people that can handle VAR,” King said.

“I was at a meeting the other week here in Norway, where clubs do not want VAR. However, it is the Norwegian FA that wants to continue with it. To be honest, when I see the problems that it has created in England, suspend it until you’ve got people who can handle it, it’s been a joke.

“It doesn’t seem to have gotten any better from when it was first introduced, and this must come from the people in the VAR room. It is disrupting the game of football, I don’t understand what takes them so long. There are 13 mistakes? There shouldn’t be one.

“If it is a refereeing mistake, that is fine, it is a human error, but with the system and technology they’ve got, you can’t tell me they can’t sort these things out more efficiently.”

PGMOL outrage after Everton v Brentford controversy at Goodison

While Everton benefited from the decision to send Nørgaard off, there are plenty of other occasions where the Toffees have not been helped by VAR.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise if there are plenty of people around the country who want VAR scrapped – with Richard Keys having his say via his personal X account (5 February) after the recent reveal by the PGMOL.

However, for now, it doesn’t look as though VAR is going anywhere.

In other Everton news, Moyes is thought to be unhappy already at Goodison after a “strange” transfer.
