Everton chances of beating Liverpool predicted by supercomputer
Everton host Liverpool in Wednesday’s Merseyside derby while currently on their best run of form of the season so far in the Premier League.
The Toffees have a chance to win four straight league matches in a row for the first time since December 2023 ahead of the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, which is expected to be quite the occasion.
Liverpool, however, will cross Stanley Park sat six points clear at the Premier League’s summit, and have also won their last three in a row; unbeaten since their fourth match of the season back in September.
With both sides knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend by Bournemouth and Plymouth Argyle respectively, this will now be the very last match Liverpool ever play at the home of their arch-rivals.
Supercomputer predicts Everton v Liverpool result
Both Merseyside rivals enter Wednesday’s derby on strong runs of form in the Premier League, but the Opta Analyst supercomputer had only one clear winner in mind at its most recent update on 11 February.
The Toffees have been given just an 18.2 per cent chance to take the victory at Goodison, far behind Liverpool’s 59.7 per cent rating, which makes them the overwhelming favourites to claim all three points.
Even a draw – at 22.1 per cent – is seen with a higher likelihood than Everton getting one over on their city rivals, pointing towards what is expected to be a difficult evening for Evertonians to witness.
Everton can defy all expectations v Liverpool
Though the three teams beaten in the Toffees’ current streak – Tottenham, Brighton and Leicester City – aren’t currently in the running for the Premier League title, the hosts will still back themselves to the hilt.
Last season’s meeting at Goodison saw Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasing visitors blown away by an assured, confident display from Everton, who won 2-0 thanks to Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

David Moyes has his side on their best run of the season by a distance since replacing Sean Dyche on 9 January, and having overseen four Merseyside derby victories, the Scot will be keen to add to his tally.
It’s understandable to see Liverpool as heavy favourites as they look to extend their lead at the summit to nine points, but don’t be surprised to see if the hosts have a few tricks up their sleeve to make Goodison’s swansong a memorable night.
