Everton v Liverpool: Rio Ferdinand blown away after what Beto did

Everton and Liverpool have certainly entertained their fans and the neutral in the first half of the Merseyside derby.

The Toffees took the lead through Beto’s early goal as Jarrad Branthwaite caught the Reds’ defence off guard.

However, it was Liverpool’s turn to do that a few minutes later as Alexis Mac Allister scored an equaliser for the visitors.

Beto scores a huge goal for Everton against Liverpool

Speaking on TNT Sports on 12 February at 7:43pm, Rio Ferdinand said: “This was planned on the training ground. You have to credit David Moyes and his staff. It is all about the delay in the run and the execution of the pass. And it is a wonderful finish from Beto.”

Beto is slowly but surely winning the hearts of the fans with performances like the one displayed in the Merseyside derby.

His early goal, which caught Liverpool’s defence off guard, not only gave the Toffees the lead but also showcased his sharpness and finishing ability

Ferdinand’s commendation underscores the tactical acumen behind the goal, crediting Moyes and his coaching staff for the well-executed play.

The goal, with its precise timing and execution, was undoubtedly memorable, a moment that will resonate with supporters for its quality and significance in such a high-stakes game.

David Moyes needs to ask his players to tighten up at the back

However, despite the elation of taking the lead, Everton’s defence left much to be desired when Mac Allister equalised for Liverpool shortly after in the last derby at Goodison Park before the move to Bramley-Moore Dock.

This moment highlighted a recurring issue for the Toffees this season – defensive lapses that can cost them dearly in crucial matches.

While Beto’s goal was a testament to their attacking threat, Moyes will be acutely aware that defensive solidity is key to securing a positive result.

The second half presents an opportunity for the hosts to correct their earlier mistakes, to tighten up at the back and to capitalise on the momentum Beto’s goal has provided.

If the Toffees can manage to keep Liverpool at bay while still posing a threat going forward, they could very well snatch the win.
