Richard Keys rages over last-gasp scenes at Everton in 2-2 v Liverpool

Richard Keys has been left raging at the last-gasp scenes that occurred during the Liverpool and Everton game on Wednesday.

The last-ever Merseyside derby ended in a 2-2 draw thanks to one of the most dramatic finishes to a Premier League game ever.

Throughout the entirety of the game, Liverpool and Everton were both at each other’s throats and seemingly gearing themselves up for an all-out war.

However, despite the end-of-game scenes ending in jubilation for Everton, there was a moment when it felt like it was all going to be taken away from them.

James Tarkowski was the man of the moment for Everton as he managed to net a glorious 96th-minute equaliser for the Toffees after being on the back foot for most of the half.

David Moyes had sent his entire team up the pitch in order to try and scramble a goal past Alisson and they more than managed to do that thanks to their counter-attacking play.

Tarkowski leathered the ball into the top right corner of the net and left the Brazil international with no chance of stopping it.

However, VAR got involved as, in the build-up to the finish, the Reds thought that one or two of the Toffees’ players were offside but in the end, VAR ruled in Everton’s favour.

Taking to X (12 February), Keys shared his thoughts on VAR’s involvement in the goal.

“What a way to ruin an occasion. What are they thinking,” he wrote.

Everton have more than enough quality to survive in the Premier League

If Wednesday’s Merseyside derby showed Toffees fans anything, it’s that their team has more than enough quality to retain their Premier League status this season.

Moyes’ return has reinvigorated Everton and it seems like each and every player on the pitch has belief in themselves which is something that fans haven’t seen from the Toffees in some time.

Thanks to their 2-2 draw with Liverpool, Everton are now 15th in the Premier League table and find themselves eight points clear of the drop zone.

Which, on the face of things, is a more than big enough gap to prove they’re here to stay and not get relegated from the Premier League.

And, after the start to the season that the Toffees had, that feels like a win in itself.
