Tim Sherwood spots Arne Slot ‘going mental’ after Everton v Liverpool incident

Arne Slot was clearly deeply unhappy during an incident as Everton drew 2-2 with Liverpool at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

Beto and Alexis Mac Allister exchanged goals during the first 16 minutes, creating a medley amongst the fans during the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on 12 February.

While the Reds were able to head into the half-time break on equal terms despite the early blow, the opposition boss was clearly unhappy with some he saw during the opening goal.

Whatever it was, it was not enough for VAR to rule the goal out, with Beto doing brilliantly to break free from a free-kick situation and slide the ball under the on-rushing Alisson.

Mohamed Salah thought he had netted a winner before James Tarkowski smashed home an equaliser in the eighth minute of added time. Cue pandemonium.

Arne Slot furious after Beto’s opening goal

Speaking live via Sky Sports News [12 February, 7:42pm], Tim Sherwood said: “It’s Beto. It’s a free-kick, Liverpool switch off as Beto gets in behind Konate, who just nudges him so he can’t recover.

“Alisson comes out and Beto slides it under him. Arne Slot, on the sidelines, is going mental. I’m not actually sure why he’s arguing there – it looks fine. The only question was about offside but I think they’ve checked it already. 1-0. I can’t see why – the celebrations go on.”

Liverpool quickly amended their errors, with Mac Allister heading past Jordan Pickford just five minutes later, but Slot clearly saw something wrong with the opener.

Everton avoid further VAR drama at Goodison Park

The Toffees continuously have incidents analysed by VAR, and then again by PGMOL’s Howard Webb, but despite Slot’s frustrations, Beto was not denied.

The Portugal-born striker is now firing on all cylinders under David Moyes, scoring a brace during the 4-0 win over Leicester City, coming at an incredible time for the Blues.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja have both been handed extensive spells on the sidelines and with Iliman Ndiaye suffering a crushing blow during the first half, his sharp rise in form has been vital.

Although the Toffees have three league wins under Moyes already, the relegation zone is just 11 points away from them, which will be a concern until they are mathematically safe.

With Leicester, Ipswich Town and Southampton all struggling to pick up points, playing Championship football at Bramley-Moore is not a realistic threat, but no one will be celebrating until that is confirmed.

Moyes has already worked wonders since taking over from Sean Dyche, winning back the love of the fans after leaving all those years ago, and he can become a hero if Everton begin to climb the table.
