Bellew tells Arne Slot ‘to get a grip’ for what he did after Everton v Liverpool
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has come under fire for his actions after Everton snatched a draw in the Merseyside Derby.
The Toffees welcomed the Reds to Goodison Park for the final time on Wednesday (13 February) and took a point in the final seconds.
James Tarkowski netted the late equaliser sparking wild scenes in the stands, which ultimately spilled over onto the pitch and caused tensions between the two sides.
This eventually culminated in Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure being sent off by Michael Oliver before Slot walked onto the pitch to shake the official’s hand.
Tony Bellew slams Arne Slot after red card for Liverpool after Everton draw
The Dutch head coach walked onto the pitch and grabbed the referee closer before letting go in a bizarre confrontation, especially after it seemed the unpleasantness had stopped at Goodison.
Unsurprisingly, the 46-year-old was shown a red card for his actions which will see him banned for at least one Premier League match.
Despite being given his marching orders, many supporters inside Goodison missed the moment and only found out after leaving the ground.
One of those fans was boxing great Tony Bellew who was made aware of the news by Jamie O’Hara on talkSPORT (12 February).
The radio presenter said: “Arne Slot went over to shake the referee’s hand but he grabbed hold of him, it was a bit aggressive.”
The Evertonian replied: “Did he really? He wants to get a grip of himself. What’s he going on for? Just leave it to the players.”
Everton v Liverpool clash at Goodison Park ends on sour note
The final Merseyside Derby at Goodison ended in spectacular fashion as Tarkowski volleyed home a brilliant strike to secure a point in the most dramatic of circumstances.
This was completely deserved as the Toffees had performed admirably against the Premier League leaders and frustrated their rivals with how they took the game to them.
There is no word other than “chaos” to describe the scenes between the Everton and Liverpool players and staff after the game.
Unfortunately, the four red cards given by Oliver after the full-time whistle have taken over the headlines and have overshadowed what was a full-blooded affair between the Merseyside rivals.
The home fans will remember the game and the late equaliser forever but it is still a shame how the clash finished, regardless.
David Moyes will have to bring his players back down to earth quickly now, especially with a trip to face Crystal Palace coming up on Saturday (15 January).
