Everton fans ‘could be swiftly dealt with by courts’ after incident v Liverpool

Everton supporters are still celebrating a dramatic Merseyside derby draw against Liverpool at Goodison Park.

In the final ever derby to be staged at the Toffees’ long-time home, a last-gasp James Tarkowski volley earned Everton an unlikely 2-2 draw.

It sparked wild scenes at full-time, leading to Arne Slot being issued a red card along with three others as referee Michael Oliver was kept busy throughout.

Supporters were well up for the occasion well before kick off, with thousands gathering around Goodison Park to welcome the players.

However, as can often be the case, a certain few went a little too far. In one such example, a security worker was hit in the face with a flare that had been launched.

While thousands helped create a derby day atmosphere to remember, those who launched flares – thus putting others at serious risk of injury – now face possible police action.

Indeed, in the view of former FIFA referee Keith Hackett, it may well be that the court system deals with them swiftly.

Given the incidents took place outside of Goodison Park itself, it is a matter for police to deal with.

“Anything that happens outside of the stadium is the responsibility of the police and the local authority,” Hackett exclusively told Goodison News.

“Any behaviour which is law breaking will be dealt with by the courts the following morning.”

Everton rescue dramatic 2-2 draw v Liverpool

Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah had Liverpool on course for a 2-1 win after Beto had opened the scoring inside 11 minutes.

In truth, David Moyes’ men offered very little when chasing an equaliser. Until, that is, a ball was sent into the box with 98 minutes on the clock and Tarkowski did the rest.

It was as dramatic a finish as any other Merseyside derby at Goodison and, while it was not the three points Everton supporters wanted, it felt as good as.

Liverpool fans took great delight in chanting that they had ‘won the league’ at Goodison, which would not have been far wrong, but dropping two points gives Arsenal a chance to capitalise.

If Liverpool somehow fail to go on to win the title from here, Tarkowski’s late strike will be seen as the moment they chucked it all away.
