Ferdinand in disbelief at ‘crazy’ Liverpool information he heard in game v Everton

Rio Ferdinand was left in disbelief at some information he heard about Liverpool in their game against Everton on Wednesday.

The two sides were facing one another in the Premier League during the last-ever Merseyside derby to be held at Goodison Park.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw after what was likely one of the most dramatic ends to a game in Premier League history thanks to the equaliser in the dying embers of the game from James Tarkowski.

While the game itself was obviously full of end-to-end stuff, there was some information Ferdinand heard about the Reds’ team that left him shocked.

Everton XYZ Liverpool in their Premier League clash

Before Beto managed to open up the scoring in the opening minutes of the game, Darren Fletcher and Ferdinand were talking about each of Liverpool and Everton’s line-ups when Fletcher shared a fact about Arne Slot’s starting XI.

“This is the first time in a top-flight league match for Liverpool that they’ve started without an Englishman in the team,” Fletcher said live on TNT Sports 1 (12 February, 19:34pm).

“They did it famously against Everton in the 1986 Cup final but not an English player out there for Liverpool, a historic night in that regard for them.”

Ferdinand then replied with: “Wow, yeah that’s a crazy one that really, Curtis Jones is on the bench but yeah, I don’t know how the academy guys will feel about that.”

David Moyes’ men proved their worth at Goodison Park

The last-ever Merseyside derby to be held at Goodison Park did not disappoint with neither of the Merseyside outfits sitting back and inviting pressure onto their defensive line.

Both sides were geared up for an all-out war and that’s what the fans were given on Wednesday.

Going into the clash, both teams had 41 wins on their record and after the game ended as a draw, each team stayed at 41 wins which was likely the fairest outcome on the day.

Since David Moyes was brought in to replace Sean Dyche, the difference in quality is night and day.

The Toffees now actually know how to string more than two or three passes together and the fact they fought against the league leaders and more than held their own shows how strong they are.

But, the fact that Iliman Ndiaye went off the pitch injured in the first half, is certainly a massive concern for the club and their fans.

Only time will tell if Everton have what it takes to retain their Premier League status but one thing is for sure, if they perform like they did against Slot’s men each week, they should be more than fine.

Which, at the end of the day, after the start to the season that the Merseyside outfit had, is likely all that fans want.
