Jim White laughs at what Everton fan said about Liverpool live on talkSPORT
Everton certainly created a night to remember in the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park.
The Toffees took the lead when Beto stroked home when through on goal but Alexis Mac Allister put the Reds level only five minutes later.
Liverpool found themselves leading 2-1 going into injury time but James Tarkowski proved to be the hero as he scored in the 97th minute to gain his side a point.
That is when everything exploded on and off the pitch.
Goodison Park scenes explode for Everton and Liverpool
Tarkowski’s goal in added time caused a burst of emotion inside Goodison with some supporters running onto the pitch to demonstrate their jubilation.
Things turned unsavoury between the players after the full-time whistle, as Abdoulaye Doucoure celebrated in front of the Liverpool support, raising a finger to his lips to shush the away end.
Curtis Jones was unhappy about this and ran over to make his feelings known to the Blues midfielder, resulting in a brawl between the players, with that duo sent off after being shown second yellows.
Discussing the scenes on talkSPORT (12 February), an Everton fan rung in and blamed Liverpool for their downfall, saying: “The referee told them repeatedly from throw-ins and goal kicks that he was going to be adding time on and they continued to waste time after they scored.
“That’s their right to do but then they were bit on the backside when they conceded the goal in the 97th minute, that’s the problem with timewasting.”
He then went on to add: “But if we go back to the point, Curtis Jones is the problem there. If he doesn’t run over [to Doucoure] and pretend to be a tough guy then all that doesn’t happen.”
Jim White laughed in response before Simon Jordan admitted: “I’m inclined to agree.”
Everton give Goodison Park perfect send-off
Despite starting the game on top, it looked as though the Toffees were going to have to settle for defeat in their final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park.
However, the players refused to give up and paid the fans back with an excellent late goal to leave Liverpool devastated, with Arne Slot clearly raging.
While the Toffees will be glad to have taken something from the game to go 10 points clear of the relegation zone, to supporters this will have felt much more important than just points.
It was clear to see that the Blues players bought into the occasion too and given supporters have felt disappointed by their team numerous times this term, this will have shown that they are all fighting the same fight now.
The drama of the derby lived up to the occasion and David Moyes will be hoping his side can take the momentum from this win forward as they look to continue to turn their season around.
