Robbie Savage stunned by ‘Amazing’ Everton after what they have done recently

David Moyes’ influence at Everton has been evident despite taking charge of just five games since returning to Goodison Park last month.

The Scot’s re-appointment on Merseyside after 12 years away was met with plenty of fanfare, but the streetwise way in which he’s turned the Toffees’ form around has shown that business comes first.

Sean Dyche‘s claim that he’d taken the Blues’ squad as far as he could – seen as the primary reason behind his sacking on 9 January – has proven to be a folly, with Moyes taking them to a new level.

A run of three Premier League wins on the spin were halted by a 2-2 draw with Liverpool in Wednesday’s Merseyside Derby, and on a historic night, Moyes showed why he’s the man for Everton once again.

Robbie Savage hails David Moyes impact at Everton

Writing in the Daily Mirror‘s print edition (15 February, page 65), Robbie Savage was amazed by the new heights Everton have been taken to by Moyes.

Savage said: “It’s amazing how managers can transform teams. I’m a huge fan of Sean Dyche, I thought he did great with Everton.

“But his replacement David Moyes knows the club, he’s got a connection with the supporters, and now look at their situation.

“It’s amazing how a manager and coaching staff can transform a group of players who were struggling. It’s credit to Moyesie’s desire, after what he’s achieved in the game, to get them performing like this.

“They’ve gone from a team who looked set for a relegation battle to a team who look like they’ll finish mid-table. Amazing.”

David Moyes hire a masterstroke by Everton

Going into arguably the most pivotal calendar year in the club’s entire history, Everton’s new owners The Friedkin Group had a big decision to make when it came to the manager who’d lead them into a new era.

Moving to their new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium this summer makes staying in the Premier League absolutely vital for the Toffees, with relegation an unthinkable prospect from a financial perspective.

Showing Dyche the door, however, was a big risk given TFG’s patchy history of mid-season managerial appointments, but they rolled a six by choosing to replace him with a club legend in Moyes.

Not only has the Scot galvanised the playing group and the Goodison faithful in unison, but he’s shown that having a squad hampered by injuries and cash-strapped recruitment can still produce consistent results.

Winning 10 points from a possible 15 is a massive foundation to build from, and with the Blues 10 points clear of the bottom three, Moyes‘ impact on their fortunes in this crucial year cannot be understated.
