Beto makes new transfer admission after what has happened at Everton

Everton have struggled in the final third this season, but look to have found a new hero in Beto.

Upon David Moyes’ return to Goodison Park, Dominic Calvert-Lewin had scored two goals across the campaign, while both Beto and Armando Broja scored one each.

The Blues were hit with further attacking woes when Calvert-Lewin and Broja were both ruled out through injury although Beto has stepped up having now scored four goals in his last three games, it could have been very different.

Beto was close to leaving Everton

Although things are looking up at Goodison now, going into the winter transfer window, it looked as though reinforcements were needed desperately.

However, with PSR restrictions, the Toffees also had to be shrewd in any business they did, signing only Carlos Alcaraz initially on loan from Flamengo.

With that in mind, it wasn’t too surprising that Beto was one player being linked with an exit from Merseyside throughout the window.

The likes of Como, Roma and Torino were all credited with interest in securing the striker’s services.

Torino submitted a £15million bid in a second attempt to sign Beto, although both were rejected by the Toffees and Moyes.

However, an offer from Real Betis came too late for the Blues to consider as their other striker options were set for periods on the sidelines making Beto the only option.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the Guinea-Bissau international admitted he was close to an exit, saying: “There was a point [I nearly left]. I didn’t want to go but if it happened, it would have been because I needed to get minutes anywhere.

“But football is football, things happen quickly, and now I’m here doing this interview. I’m glad I didn’t.”

Beto a rejuvenated player at Everton

It’s funny just how quickly things change in football and Beto’s fortunes are certainly a reflection of that with him now looking like an undroppable player in Blue.

Despite claims that Beto felt otherwise at Everton, the 27-year-old says he had no desire to leave which will certainly reassure supporters that he is there to work hard and fight for his future at Goodison.

New managers can always provide a boost for different players and although the entire squad looks more confident, the striker is certainly one man who’s abilities have been unleashed under Moyes.

There is plenty of the season still to be played and it is up to Beto to prove he can deliver regularly.

However, he looks like a different player now and if he continues his current form until the end of the campaign, he will surely be a player that the Toffees are desperate to hold on to as they prepare to move to Bramley-Moore Dock.
