Elise Stenevik shares Everton Women verdict after Chelsea defeat
Elise Stenevik has lauded Everton Women for their performance against Chelsea on Sunday despite losing the game 2-1.
The Toffees took the lead in the 51st minute and up until the 93rd, the points seemed set to be shared between the two Women’s Super League teams.
However, thanks to a last-minute strike from Lauren James, Chelsea left Kingsmeadow victorious and added yet another three points to their tally.
Stenevik shared her thoughts on the way that Brian Sorensen’s team played and was left in awe at the performance the squad put in.
🗣️ “I am so, so proud of the team – I am a really, really proud Evertonian. Being back is truly amazing.”

Elise Stenevik left in awe at Everton Women teammates
Now that the Women’s Super League is back in action after their winter break, all of Everton Women’s focus has been on remaining in the top flight.
At the moment, Crystal Palace Women occupy the relegation spot in the Women’s Super League but the fact that they’ve only won two out of their last five domestic games should be a cause for concern.
Speaking to the club’s official media (18 February), Stenevik shared her thoughts on the way the Toffees played.
“It’s hard how to react to this game, after losing in the end because I am so, so proud of the team, today I’m a really proud Evertonian because they [Chelsea] are a top two in Europe I’d say,” she said.
“And for us to give them a fight like that for 90 minutes and the way we fought defensively.
“We could have scored two or three goals today and nobody would be saying that’s luck because we did create enough chances for that.”
Brian Sorensen needs to get Everton Women back on course
At the moment, Everton Women are sitting comfortably in mid-table.
As there’s only one relegation spot in the Women’s Super League, it feels unlikely that Sorensen’s team will be relegated to the second tier as seven points is the current gap between 12th-placed Palace and Everton.
Position | Team | Points | Goal difference |
9th | Everton Women | 13 | -10 |
10th | Leicester City Women | 12 | -10 |
11th | Aston Villa Women | 10 | -12 |
12th | Crystal Palace Women | 6 | -26 |
While relegation doesn’t seem all that likely unless Sorensen manages to find a way to get the Toffees firing on a consistent basis, things could go from bad to worse in an instant.
The Friedkin Group did, however, deliver on their promise to fund the women’s side of things better and while a fair few new faces such as Emma Watson were added to the Toffees’ ranks in the winter transfer window, it still feels like more should be coming from the Merseyside outfit.
There are only eight games remaining for Everton women this season with two of those games coming against fellow relegation candidates.
If they somehow manage to slip up and drop points on a regular basis, especially against Aston Villa Women and Crystal Palace Women, it’s hard to see how the Merseyside outfit would be able to survive the season.
