Everton early team news v Man United: Ndiaye update shared as three players ruled out

David Moyes has provided an injury update as Everton prepare to host Manchester United at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Everton face a Manchester United side in starkly contrasting form to their own, with the visitors winning just two of their last nine league matches, losing six and falling to a lowly 15th in the Premier League.

That’s a stark contrast to Everton, who are up to 14th following four wins from their last five in the Premier League, with Moyes overseeing a complete reset in the Blues’ mindset, playing style and results.

As a result, it’s arguably Everton who are the favourites heading into this match at Goodison despite losing their last six straight to the visitors, but Moyes’ side are still faced with a lengthy list of injuries.

David Moyes provides Iliman Ndiaye injury update at Everton

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of facing United on Saturday, Moyes provided an update on the likes of Ndiaye, Nathan Patterson and Youssef Chermiti, while confirming no new injuries.

“We’ve got [Doucoure and Alcaraz] both fit at the moment, so that gives us a decision to make,” Moyes said.

“We’ll look at it. We’ll need both of them because we’re really short on numbers. Nathan Patterson is back on the grass but it’s too soon for him.

“Same for Youssef Chermiti – [Iliman] Ndiaye is taking taking injections and [he’s] hoping to get him back sooner rather than later.”

Iliman Ndiaye is a huge miss for Everton v Manchester United

Moyes leading such a quick and impressive turnaround at Goodison Park – winning four of seven games in all competitions since replacing Sean Dyche on 9 January – has come in spite of numerous setbacks.

The Scot has had to contend with almost double-figures worth of injuries, both inherited and ones picked up since his return to the club; yet the replacements deployed have really stepped up to the plate.

Jake O’Brien at right-back, Doucoure in the number 10 role and none more so than Beto up front have all come to the fore in the wake of their injury crisis, with the latter deputising for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Missing Ndiaye, however, leaves a huge hole in the final third, and despite the arrival of Carlos Alcaraz last month – who scored the winner against Crystal Palace last time out – there’s no natural replacement.

Ndiaye is the Toffees’ top scorer both in the Premier League and in all competitions with eight goals overall, and his link-up play with an in-form Beto would certainly be a boost to the Blues’ firepower.

Without the Senegalese, further responsibility will fall on Beto and Alcaraz’s shoulders, as well as the returning Doucoure, but with all three on an upward trajectory, confidence will still be high at Goodison.
