Everton news: Top target emerges to replace Kevin Thelwell
The Friedkin Group have identified their top target as Kevin Thelwell is expected to leave Everton this summer.
The Americans completed the takeover of the club in December and one of their first big moves was to part ways with Sean Dyche and they now have another major call to make.
David Moyes was roped in as Dyche’s replacement and thus far, that decision seems to be paying off for the Toffees.

David Weir is The Friedkin Group’s No.1 target
As Thelwell’s contract is running out in the summer, the owners have two options – negotiate a new deal or find a replacement.
It turns out that they have gone with the second option and that seems to signal the end of Thelwell’s time as the club’s Director of Football.

However, despite his affinity to the Toffees, Weir is set to snub a return to the club.
He does not have any desire to become the sporting director and return to Merseyside as he fancies an extended stay at the Amex Stadium.

Everton need an upgrade on Kevin Thelwell for the summer transfer window
The Friedkin Group must be ambitious and they should target someone like Dan Ashworth, who recently departed from Manchester United.
His proven track record at Brighton and Newcastle, signing talents like Moises Caicedo and Alexander Isak, demonstrates exceptional recruitment nous.
Ashworth’s experience in restructuring clubs aligns with Everton’s need for a fresh, data-driven approach to rebuild amid financial constraints and a move to Bramley-Moore Dock.
The Friedkins need a visionary who balances cost-effective signings with academy development, avoiding Thelwell’s hit-or-miss record.
A bold and progressive appointment like Ashworth would send a message of ambition and that the Americans are here to help the club go to the next level and compete for trophies.
Whether or not that’s the route they go down, remains to be seen, but it would certainly encourage the fanbase if they did.
