Howard Webb Exclusive: Everton incident indefensible v Manchester United

Howard Webb may remain silent over the penalty controversy as Everton drew against Manchester United, Keith Hackett has said.

The Toffees drew 2-2 with the Red Devils at Goodison Park on Saturday, but it was nearly better as a penalty was given for an alleged foul on Ashley Young.

It would have given Everton the perfect chance to win the game in added time, but VAR overruled the decision despite clear tugs from Harry Maguire and Matthijs De Ligt.

Everton controversy not acceptable in Premier League

The Premier League shared that the VAR decided there was no foul committed, which caused outrage online after clear footage of Young being dragged back was shared.

Hackett believes that the decision cannot be defended, despite Webb regularly backing his officials in a Premier League reaction show with Michael Owen.

The ex-PGMOL chief and FIFA referee believes Webb will stay silent, with no defence for VAR and Andy Madeley after the ridiculous drama against Manchester United at Goodison Park.

“This is frankly indefensible and we will not hear from Webb in this,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

Everton fans disgusted against Manchester United

It says it all that Everton fans expect this kind of treatment from the Premier League.

Webb has tried to defend several shocking calls this season, with Arsenal fans quite outspoken against some of the decisions they have seen, too.

VAR is simply not fit for purpose if they cannot give the on-field footage from the correct angles, and the perfect angle was shared online instantly to give this decision.

Young may have gone down theatrically, but there is no disputing that he was dragged back twice, not only once.

Everton may have tired to throw away their two-goal lead, but this penalty would have sent Goodison wild with another deserved three points, but it wasn’t meant to be in the end.

David Moyes was happy with his Everton side, but deep down, he will have serious questions for the Premier League and Webb, who appeared to have lost total confidence from anyone and everyone.
