Premier League make announcement on Everton v Manchester United controversy

Everton have been the focus of a fresh announcement made by the Premier League after a moment of controversy ensued in their clash with Manchester United.

Heading into the clash, Everton will have been very confident of a result given the wretched run of form that Manchester United have found themselves on.

Ruben Amorim was said to be under increasing pressure to keep his job at Man United, knowing that a win could alleviate some of that pressure.

However, things didn’t go to plan early on in their encounter with Everton, as the hosts took an early lead through Beto before VAR was called upon.

Premier League issue statement after Beto goal

Beto, who has been in fine form for Everton, appeared to give his side the lead after just 19 minutes but a lengthy VAR check would follow.

The check was for a possible offside involving both Beto and Jesper Lindstrom, with the Premier League releasing an instant statement to clear up the incident.

In a post via the Premier League Match Centre X account (22 February), the statement reads: “The referee’s call of goal was checked and confirmed by VAR – as there was no offside offence committed by either Lindstrøm or Beto.”

Everton fans will have been pleased to see the goal given, just 14 minutes before Abdoulaye Doucoure doubled their advantage.

Everton on course for famous Goodison victory

Their clash with Man United holds far more importance than initially suggested, with four ex-Everton players inducted at Goodison.

However, for those on the pitch, getting three points will be all that matters and as it stands, it looks all but set to end that way.

Everton have all but wiped the floor with Man United in the opening 45 minutes and are more than worthy of their 2-0 lead.

With it being the last encounter between the two sides at Goodison Park, Everton will be keen to hold on to their lead and secure what would be a famous victory in the history of the club.

With Amorim under increasing amounts of pressure, United will have to come out guns blazing in the second half, but based on the form showcased by Everton in recent weeks, it may not be enough to swing the result in their favour.
