Brentford v Everton: BBC pundit issues verdict on red card controversy

Everton striker Beto missed a one-on-one against Brentford in the first half at the G-Tech Community Stadium.

However, a few seconds before the chance, Bees defender Ethan Pinnock could’ve potentially found himself in real danger.

There were no concrete appeals from the Blues players as Beto continued on goal, but failed to find the back of the net.

Toffees unlucky against Brentford?

Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, a talkSPORT, pundit, was commentating on the game on Premier League’s world feed.

While she admitted that the 27-year-old should’ve found the back of the net, she admits that if he stayed down, Simon Hooper, the referee, would’ve had a decision to make about sending Pinnock off in West London on Wednesday.

Sweetman-Kirk said at 8:12pm: “When he slips, Pinnock totally takes Beto out. If he stays down, he gives Simon Hooper a decision to make (about a red card). But one on one, he should be finishing that.”

However, he did not even blow for a foul and played a good advantage – something the Toffees did not make the most of.

Within minutes, they found themselves trailing and went into the break with a one-goal lead.

David Moyes will not be impressed with Beto’s finishing for Everton

In the first half, Beto had two incredibly good chances to find the back of the net, but he fluffed his lines on both occasions.

The first one was played straight into the Bees keeper and the second one failed to even find the target.

For someone who’s been in such prolific goal-scoring form, it was a half to forget for him and he would have frustrated David Moyes.

The Scotsman has been pleased with Beto’s remarkable turnaround and the last thing he’d want is for him to go back to his old ways.

Hopefully, he learns from his mistakes and comes back stronger for the Blues in the next one because they desperately need him to be firing on all cylinders.

Moyes won’t be too harsh on him as he still will be high on confidence, but he certainly knows that he could’ve done better.
