Everton sources: ‘Deal done’ to secure first-choice backroom pick
The Friedkin Group are making significant changes at Everton since completing their takeover at the end of 2024.
Sean Dyche was given some time to prove his credentials, but after a few weeks, the writing seemed to be on the wall for him.
David Moyes was hired as his replacement and it’s been an appointment that has paid off for the club in the short term.

Leeds United chief Angus Kinnear set for Everton move
The Toffees’ new owners were looking for a new CEO to kick-start the Bramley-Moore Dock era, and they had turned to Leeds United chief Angus Kinnear.
Kinnear is currently serving as the chief executive at the Elland Road outfit as they aim to return to the Premier League.
TBR football journalist Graeme Bailey told leedsunited.news, that a deal to hire him is “done” with him set to move to Merseyside at the end of the season.
He was the “first-choice” pick of the American owners and he will be taking up the role of CEO at the Toffees.
While the Englishman is well respected by the San Francisco 49ers and chairman Paraag Marathe, he feels that it is time for a new start.
Club | Role | Tenure |
Arsenal | Marketing Staff | 2005 – 2010 |
Arsenal | Head of Marketing | 2010 – 2013 |
West Ham | Sporting Director | 2013 – 2017 |
Leeds United | Chief Executive | 2017 – present |
Kevin Thelwell now expected to depart once his deal expires
Kevin Thelwell’s contract at the club is running out at the end of the season and while he was the Director of Football and not the CEO, it seems like this signals the end of his time at the club.
The Toffees’ interest in Kinnear stems from a desire for fresh leadership to navigate the club’s next chapter under the Friedkin Group’s ownership.
Thelwell has faced criticism for inconsistent signings during a turbulent period marked by financial constraints and relegation battles.

While he stabilised the squad with some cost-effective moves, his tenure lacked the transformative edge the new owners now seek as they transition to Bramley-Moore Dock.
Kinnear brings proven expertise in managing stadium moves, having overseen Arsenal’s Emirates shift and West Ham’s London Stadium transition alongside a knack for engaging fans and driving commercial growth.
His appointment would signal ambition, aligning with the Friedkins’ vision to overhaul the club’s executive structure.
