Everton news round-up: Angus Kinnear update, summer transfer lined up

Everton do not return to action until 8 March following their draw with Brentford, though plenty will be happening at Goodison Park until then.

Off the back of Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Brentford, Everton have eight days of recovery before their encounter with Wolves.

However, while the players may get a well-earned rest, those behind the scenes are rather unlikely to get the same, with plenty expected over the next week.

Goodison News rounds up the latest news and rumours from Merseyside on Thursday.

Dermot Gallagher reacts to Everton controversy v Brentford

David Moyes’ side travelled to the capital on Wednesday evening and secured yet another valuable point as their search for safety goes on.

However, the game was not without controversy when Beto appeared to be fouled when he went through on goal, before getting back onto his feet and failing to score.

Referee Simon Hooper didn’t look back at the incident, with Gallagher believing it should have been a red card.

Via Sky Sports Ref Watch, Gallagher said, “I don’t think there’s any doubt. It’s one of the most unusual situations I’ve seen.

“Pinnock hasn’t denied it because Beto has picked himself up, and he’s still through on goal. That was key for the referee and he’s played the advantage. It’s a tough call.”

Chermiti injury update at Everton

Chermiti has had a troubled time at Everton, though it appears as though his nightmare is edging closer to an end for now after being named on the bench against Brentford.

Since arriving from Sporting in 2023, the forward has been limited to just 20 appearances, failing to score in any of them, with an update provided ahead of his return.

Dr Brar exclusively told Goodison News: “My reading is that he had a significant muscular injury, I’d say Grade 3 based on the timeline of his absence.

“The club are focusing on bringing him back gradually. I still think he’s weeks away from being ready to start a Premier League game.

Angus Kinnear in line for Everton appointment

Since TFG’s takeover of Everton, they have looked to make several changes, with the first big one coming in the form of David Moyes.

However, it looks as though Angus Kinnear is set to be the next big change implemented on Merseyside with his appointment from Leeds expected, though Bryan King isn’t convinced.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, King said: “Kinnear will be getting a significant pay rise.

He would have been sold by Everton on the new stadium and the direction the club is heading in. However, Moyes will need to rubber-stamp this move as well.

It isn’t Kinnear who has got Leeds in a position where they look like they will be promoted. He might have been part of a team, but it isn’t all down to him.

This move doesn’t really excite me if I’m being honest.”

Everton eye first summer transfer

Despite the current campaign still having a lot to give, planning has already started for the summer transfer window, with Manor Solomon identified as a potential target for the Toffees.

The Spurs loanee has been in outstanding form for Leeds this season, and according to Ben Jacobs, he is on the radar of Everton.

Despite being on loan with the Whites, they do not hold the option to buy, and any chances of a return to Elland Road may hinge on their ability to get promoted, which at this stage, seems likely.

Solomon would add some much-needed quality and depth to Everton’s attacking lineup if a deal were to materialise.
