Lineker reacts to what Moyes said on MOTD afrer Brentford v Everton – ‘Under pressure’

Gary Lineker has given his thoughts on what David Moyes said after Everton drew 1-1 with Brentford in their Premier League clash on Wednesday.

The Toffees extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to seven and are now 15th, just one point behind 14th-placed Manchester United.

David Moyes’ return has instilled belief back into a squad that, when Sean Dyche was in charge, couldn’t manage to string more than five passes together, let alone find the back of the net.

However, that didn’t stop the Scotsman from being rather modest in his post-Brentford interview with Match of the Day on 26 February.

Lineker believes Moyes has made a ‘real difference’ to Everton

Since Moyes’ appointment, it’s hard to think of another team in the top flight that’s had a better run than the Merseyside outfit.

They’ve drawn against the likes of Liverpool and have also beaten teams such as Leicester by massive scorelines.

And, speaking live on BBC’s Match of the Day (26 February, 56m, 20s), Moyes said the following of his impact: “The players have done a remarkable job, they really have.

“Sometimes the managers get the praise for it but I genuinely think the players deserve the praise for it because they’ve knuckled down and got on with the job, pulled themselves up.

“Because let’s be fair, we weren’t in a great position a month or so ago but we’re getting a bit closer to a position that might keep us as a Premier League team.”

Lineker then responded with: “[Moyes is] modest as ever but he’s made a real difference.

“Another valuable point there, they were under pressure for most of the first half weren’t they but they still had real chances, it was a good game.”

Everton need to keep up their recent run of form at Goodison Park

At the moment, Everton are in some of their best form across the 2024/25 season.

Players such as Beto and Jake O’Brien have found a new lease of life under Moyes and the Toffees’ team in general seems to be on top of most games they’ve played in recently.

Granted, they were somewhat under the cosh in the first half of their game against the Bees on 26 February but they still managed to grind out a result thanks to a 77th-minute equaliser from O’Brien.

If the Merseyside outfit wants to ensure their safety and try to make a last-dash attempt to finish in the top half of the table, they need to keep up their run of form and not take their foot off the gas.

On paper, they may seem to be safe from the bottom three of the Premier League but if they get too complacent, they could slip back into their old ways, which, to be quite frank, would be far from ideal.

Because, the fact that Everton could have been going into their new Bramley Moore Dock Stadium as a Championship side, was a very real and very scary possibility until the Scotsman returned.
