Dan Ashworth update emerges as Everton eye Kevin Thelwell replacement
Kevin Thelwell is expected to part ways with Everton and Dan Ashworth has been linked to the job.
The English football director is currently out of work with his most recent stint coming at the three-time Champions League winners Manchester United.
Ashworth joined the Old Trafford outfit in July 2024 but sealed his exit just five months later.

The Friedkin Group are genuinely considering Dan Ashworth at Everton
TBR Football journalist Graeme Bailey told everton.news that Ashworth is a “genuine” candidate for the role.
While the Englishman has been linked with a move to Goodison Park recently, Thelwell’s imminent exit has seen the American owners step up the search for his replacement.
The hierarchy are even considering a different approach and not hiring a like-for-like replacement as David Moyes is entrusted to make the right signings.
David Weir, currently at Brighton, was understood to be the number one target for The Friedkin Group.
However, he is unlikely to move to Merseyside either, leaving the Americans to look elsewhere.

Toffees may strike gold with the Dan Ashworth appointment
Ashworth could be the ideal appointment for the Toffees as they’ve begun a new era under the Friedkin Group’s ownership.
With a proven track record at Brighton and Newcastle, Ashworth excels at building structured, sustainable football operations – precisely what Everton need after years of mismanagement.
His shrewd recruitment highlights his ability to spot talent that fits a club’s vision, which could rejuvenate Everton’s squad ahead of their Bramley-Moore Dock move.
Club/Association | Role |

Newcastle (2022-2024) | Sporting Director |
Brighton (2019-2022) | Technical Director |
England (2013-2018) | Director of Development |

Ashworth’s experience with the English FA also equips him to foster a strong youth system, vital for long-term success.
Despite a brief, turbulent stint at Manchester United, his reputation for setting high standards and improving club culture remains intact.
For the Toffees, who are craving stability and ambition, Ashworth’s strategic nous and Premier League pedigree make him a transformative figure to lead them forward.
