Kevin Thelwell to leave Everton as TFG make replacement decision

Kevin Thelwell will leave Everton as The Friedkin Group (TFG) have decided on his replacement.

Thelwell’s current contract at Goodison Park expires at the end of the season, and the Toffees’ director of football will subsequently leave.

The Blues’ management has underwhelmed fans over the years, especially their recruitment, with Carlos Alcaraz their only winter transfer.

With the backroom shuffle set to take place, the Friedkins may have already decided on the structure at the Merseyside outfit.

TFG may move to different recruitment model after Thelwell exit

TFG could move to a different recruitment model after Thelwell’s exit, according to Paul Joyce.

The Times journalist revealed on X (28 February) that the current director of football will leave the Toffees next summer.

Instead of a like-to-like replacement, the American owners may move in a different direction by restructuring how they operate.

Thelwell is a remnant of the Farhad Moshiri era, and the Everton fans will seemingly welcome a change in that department after years of poor signings.

Thelwell change to be welcomed at Goodison Park

Thewell has been part of the decline at Goodison, with the director of football in charge of major decisions over the years.

Last summer, it was clear that the Toffees needed a new striker, and they went ahead and got Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has struggled with injuries, and it was seemingly prudent to get a reliable number nine to reinforce the attack.

Broja’s fitness issues at Goodison Park have been even more frustrating, with the Albanian forward hardly featuring for the Blues this season.

Neal Maupay is another striker the Merseyside outfit signed a few years back, with the Frenchman mocking his parent club while on loan at Olympique Marseille.

The Toffees have been in constant relegation battles over the years, and a change in ownership was evidently necessary.

TFG now have the task of putting in place a structure that ensures the return of success at the Blues.

Moyes’ arrival has already been fruitful, and how the Merseysiders will fare remains to be seen after Thelwell’s departure.

There’s hope among the fanbase that the American owners will make the right call, whatever it may be.
