Everton news: Former Manchester City man seals move to Goodison Park
Everton have secured the return of their former coach who was at Manchester City, Stoke City as well as Plymouth Argyle.
The Toffees, under The Friedkin Group’s ownership, are looking to make changes behind the scenes.
David Moyes replacing Sean Dyche was certainly the major change, but new backroom staff members are also being brought in.
Peter Cavanagh returns to Everton as Under-21s assistant
Peter Cavanagh was the full-time Foundation Coach at the Toffees from July 2015 to June 2020.
After that, he was promoted to the youth phase Lead Coach, a role which he held until January 2022.
He then moved to Manchester City to be the Lead Foundation Coach before taking up a role at Stoke City as a first-team coach.
However, on 4 March, Cavanagh confirmed on LinkedIn that he has returned to Everton where he will be the Under-21s assistant coach.
He wrote: “It’s been nearly two weeks since I came back to a place I know really well. Tonight was my first experience of a home game as part of the U21 coaching group.
“Z Cars and win to advance to the semi-finals of the Senior Cup. It’s great seeing players I remember as young boys performing as young men.”
Leighton Baines’ first-team promotion has led to an academy ramp up
Moyes’ return to Goodison Park saw Leighton Baines’ role at the club changing drastically.
Baines was the club captain under the Scotsman and the duo shared a very good working relationship from Moyes’ first stint at the club.
The former left-back was the manager of the Under-18s and he got promoted to the first team to be one of the assistants.
That move started the overhaul of the academy, a project which has been undertaken by The Friedkin Group.
Hopefully, this yields in better results and there are more talented youngsters that are knocking on the door for a first-team debut.
