Tammy Abraham wants English deal as Everton pursue major striker signing

Everton are set to undergo monumental changes in the coming weeks and months under the new owners.

The Friedkin Group completed the acquisition of Everton in December 2024. This has been touted to be the dawn of a new era at the club following some dismal years of poor administration under Farhad Moshiri.

TFG want to run the ship tightly and have already made changes on and off the pitch at the Merseyside-based club.

Sean Dyche was replaced by David Moyes as the manager, which has yielded instant results as the Toffees are now 15 points clear of the relegation zone ahead of their clash against Wolves at Molineux.

The summer transfer window will provide a big opportunity to the new owners to finance a squad overhaul and bring fresh faces at the club.

Everton to go striker shopping in the summer?

Everton currently house three strikers with contrasting profiles – Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto and Youssef Chermiti. While Chermiti is young and still learning the trade skills, the Toffees have two solid striking options in Calvert-Lewin and Beto.

With Calvert-Lewin injured, Beto has taken on the goalscoring mantle and has netted five goals in his last six Premier League games.

Calvert-Lewin’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and there have been no indications of the Englishman signing a new deal at Everton. In such a scenario, the former Sheffield United man will walk as a free agent in the summer.

According to Calciomercato, the Merseysiders are “strongly interested” in AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham, who is currently on loan at Milan.

The Giallorossi are looking to find a new destination for Abraham in the summer as Milan are not keen to sign the 27-year-old permanently.

The report adds that along with Everton, West Ham United and Wolves are also keen on the former Chelsea striker, who is open to returning to the Premier League.

Abraham joined Milan at the start of the season with the hope that his performances will convince the Rossoneri to sign him permanently. Sadly, that has not transpired and the Englishman is on course to return to Roma.

The 27-year-old is unlikely to feature for the Romans as they spent big on Artem Dobvyk to replace him last summer. A return to the Premier League could be on the cards for Abraham. He is open to a return to England but would prefer to join a top club.

Should Everton go ahead with signing the former Chelsea man, negotiations between the clubs won’t be difficult as Roma are also owned by the Friedkin Group.

TFG planning a squad overhaul in the summer?

As many as eight Everton players are set to become free agents at the end of the season. While the new owners have decided against triggering a one-year extension for Abdoulaye Doucoure, there have been no updates regarding other players.

Calvert-Lewin is expected to leave as a free agent and in such an instance a move for Abraham would make sense.

Club legend and captain Seamus Coleman will also see his deal run out in the summer. Defenders Michael Keane and Ashley Young are also out of contract and backup goalkeeper duo of Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic will follow the same route if they are not offered new deals.

Most of the aforementioned players are either on the wrong side of thirty or have been inconsistent because of injuries. TFG are looking to build a squad that is reliable and can perform consistently throughout the season.
