Everton in talks with striker’s inner circle as TFG bids for marquee signing

Everton supporters are beginning to get excited about the prospect of an enjoyable summer of recruitment on Merseyside.

Since the Everton takeover by The Friedkin Group was formally completed in December, the light has emerged from the end of the tunnel with a successful reappointment of David Moyes, the approaching move across to Bramley-Moore Dock and reinforcements at board level to strive for success.

Somewhat of a squad overhaul is anticipated – PSR-permitting – among Evertonians as long-term footballing ambitions become more apparent under the fresh regime.

Everton want England international striker

Everton want to shop in a more prosperous market from this summer, and according to Caught Offside (9 March), are among the Premier League clubs looking to sign Tammy Abraham.

The 6’4” striker, on loan at AC Milan from Roma, is understood to be eager for a return to England having left Chelsea for the Italian capital back in 2021.

The Toffees are already considered to have contacted the entourage of Abraham, who has three goals to his name in 11 caps for England, though Newcastle United are seeking a backup striker for Alexander Isak and West Ham are in need of strengthening their frontline.

The Friedkins’ ownership of Roma could make this deal an easier one to complete and give Everton a significant advantage.

Everton would also be able to offer considerably more match action to the 27-year-old, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin seeing no movement on his expiring contract and increasingly likely to leave Moyes’ side after nine years.

Abraham would be open to signing a permanent deal at San Siro, but a Premier League comeback could be more beneficial for both his game time and his prospects of returning to the Three Lions fold under Thomas Tuchel.

Tammy Abraham would be a marquee signing

Moyes has dealt with all manner of strikers during his lengthy managerial career, from diminutive demons to battering ram target men – and everything in between.

Abraham is something of a contemporary breed of ‘target man’, possessing the height and physical prowess but also the athleticism and link-up abilities which have appealed to some of Europe’s giants during his career so far.

Everton have struggled in the goals department this season – at least before Moyes returned through the Finch Farm door and somehow restored Beto from a complete flop to a rough diamond, also offering the creative players more licence to add goals to their game.

Abraham would be an exciting acquisition, and with the Toffees’ Premier League status at the new stadium all but mathematically secure, the Friedkins can start browsing their desired market.

The towering frontman has hit eight goals and claimed four assists in all competitions this season, and has a contract lasting two more years when he returns to Roma.
