Abdoulaye Doucoure ‘to leave Everton’ after new agreement

Abdoualye Doucoure is yet to be offered a new contract by Everton.

The Toffees have several important decisions to make this summer with eight of their first-team players out of contract in the summer, with Doucoure one of them.

The Mali International has been at Goodison Park since 2020, playing an important role in the midfield under all managers except Frank Lampard.

His deal is set to expire at the end of the season and although Everton had the option to extend his contract for one more season, they have opted against it, so far.

TFG showing their ruthless decision-making

The new owners, The Friedkin Group, have wasted no time in taking ruthless decisions for the betterment of the club’s present and the future.

Not extending Doucoure’s contract is one of the several instances where the new owners have taken firm decisions. The midfielder has garnered love from Everton supporters but there is no denying that he is on the wrong side of thirty and is one of the highest earning players at the club.

By letting Doucoure leave, TFG are killing two birds with one stone – freeing up wages and enabling them to instead go sign a young and a fresh face.

According to L’Equipe, Doucoure will not stay at Everton next season. The 32-year-old will leave as a free agent in June, after it was agreed that his one-year extension won’t be triggered.

Saudi Arabian and Emirati clubs are already said to have expressed interest, too.

Everton must sign Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz has impressed since arriving from Flamengo and has also operated in Doucoure’s position, with an option to make his loan permanent.

He can play as an attacking midfielder, creating goalscoring chances and also finding himself in goalscoring positions. The 21-year-old has scored one goal and assisted one in 234 Premier League minutes.

He is not similar to Doucoure in terms of style but offers the same qualities as the Malian and signing him permanently will give David Moyes a reliable option in the squad.
