Angus Kinnear to raid Leeds for senior figure to negotiate transfers for Everton

Angus Kinnear is planning to take at least one of his allies from Leeds United to Everton when he takes charge as their CEO.

Everton announced earlier in March that Kinnear will begin in his new role as their chief executive from 1 June, meaning he is set to put an end to his eight-year association with Leeds.

The Englishman will bring a wealth of experience with him as the Toffees prepare for a new era at the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium, having helped Arsenal and West Ham United move into new stadiums during his spells there.

Meanwhile, he may also bring a few trusted officials with him, with the Sun on Sunday reporting on 9 March that he wants to take two or three of his Leeds allies with him to Merseyside.

Nick Hammond in frame for role at Everton

Nick Hammond is a senior Leeds figure who could join Kinnear at Everton, according to Patrick Boyland of The Athletic.

The journalist reported via the outlet’s website on Wednesday (26 March) that Hammond is in the frame for a player trading and negotiating role with the Toffees.

That is the sort of role that he has been doing as a freelance consultant for Leeds, meaning he could continue in his role at Elland Road while linking up with Kinnear on Merseyside.

Hammond has been a transfer consultant for Leeds since June 2023, after 49ers Enterprises completed a full takeover of the club.

However, it emerged in November that he is set to reduce the number of hours he works for the West Yorkshire outfit amid major changes behind the scenes.

At the time, LeedsLive reported that Hammond would help head of football operations Adam Underwood cope with a few big departures, but ultimately would take a step back.

Kinnear to rope in Hammond

That sets the stage perfectly for Kinnear to lure Hammond to Everton ahead of the summer transfer window.

With Kevin Thelwell departing the club at the end of his contract, the Toffees do not intend to hire a new director of football.

Thelwell’s responsibilities would instead be divided among multiple people, with Kinnear and David Moyes playing key roles in player recruitment.

Hammond could now help the process by negotiating deals.
