‘Norgaard makes Everton decision’ as contract development emerges at Brentford

Everton have shown prior interest in signing Christian Norgaard from Brentford.

The Denmark international is set to become a free agent in the summer as his contract with the Bees expires at the end of the season.

The Toffees wanted to push ahead to sign the out-of-contract midfielder after he made his exit from the West London club.

Now, David Moyes and Co. have learned of the 31-year-old’s decision with his current deal set to come to an end after the final nine Premier League games of the campaign.

Norgaard makes Brentford contract decision

There is no doubt that the former Fiorentina man would make for an excellent signing at Goodison Park ahead of a first year at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Norgaard is the Bees’ captain and has played a key role in their excellent stint since being promoted from the Championship in 2021.

With that being said, there was a chance of his six-year spell coming to an end this summer, but that no longer appears to be on the cards.

The Dane looks set to sign a new two-year contract at Brentford, disregarding his one-year option with a new deal until 2027, according to Dom Smith (28 March).

That would see the midfielder remain at the Gtech Community Stadium under Thomas Frank as opposed to making a move to Merseyside.

This is bound to come as a blow to David Moyes as the ex-Brondby man would have made for an excellent piece of business.

Everton in Norgaard transfer blow

There is no doubt that midfield reinforcements are going to be needed ahead of the new season for the Toffees.

Idrissa Gueye isn’t getting any younger, regardless of his excellent form and Abdoulaye Doucoure is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

With this pair potentially on their way out, there is every chance that multiple additions come in during the summer transfer window.

Norgaard would have been a perfect option at the base of midfield under Moyes after what has been an excellent spell with the Bees.

It now seems that the Danish international doesn’t want that time in the capital to come to an end which will only come as a frustrating blow for the Evertonians.
