Chris Sutton reacts instantly to Everton v Arsenal controversy

Everton held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League after controversial scenes on Saturday.

David Moyes’ side moved to 14th place in the Premier League after Iliman Ndiaye’s nullified Leandro Trossard’s first-half goal at Goodison Park on 5 April.

The result handed Arsenal another blow in the title race, with Liverpool only needing 11 more points to be crowned champions.

Everton, though, will be focusing on themselves as they continue their fine form under Moyes.

Chris Sutton blasts Everton penalty v Arsenal

Everton failed to register a single shot on target in the first half, but were handed a golden opportunity just four minutes into the second period after Miles Lewis-Skelly hauled Jack Harrison to the floor.

Darren England did not hesitate to point to the spot, and the decision was then validated by Stuart Atwell on VAR, although there were doubts whether the foul happened inside or outside the box.

Meanwhile, many viewers thought it should not have been a foul in the first place, with Chris Sutton thinking the same.

The Sky Sports pundit took to social media to express his thoughts on the incident, insisting that it should never have been a penalty for Everton.

“That was never a penalty”, Sutton wrote on his personal X handle (5 April).

Ndiaye marks Goodison Park return with goal

Ndiaye will have no complaints about finding the back of the net from the spot, as he would be just glad to get his name on the scoresheet.

The match against Arsenal was the Senegal international’s first start at Goodison Park since Everton’s 4-0 win against Leicester on 1 February.

Having missed five Premier League games due to an injury, Ndiaye will be delighted to have marked his first start in two months with a goal.

There is no doubt that the 25-year-old will be a key player for the Goodison Park outfit as they look to end the season on a high note.
