Everton’s ‘real Premier League position’ calculated by supercomputer

Everton have seven games remaining in the Premier League this season, though they have very little left to play for.

Everton’s season has been all but over for a while now, and although there’s still a mathematical chance of relegation, any fears can be subdued given there is a 15-point advantage.

Ipswich would have to win five games in a row to catch up to the Toffees, which, when considering they have won four all season, seems unlikely.

Moyes has done a marvellous job since returning to Everton

Everton will already have one eye on the summer transfer window, in a bid to start the new campaign as strongly as they can, though they will be keen to end the current season on a high.

The Toffees currently sit three places above the drop zone, which according to the Opta supercomputer, is exactly where they are expected to be at the current moment, albeit there are some minor discrepancies.

Calculated using xG for and against throughout the course of the season, Everton are expected to have picked up 38 points, which is three more than they actually have.

Based on those xG calculations, the Toffees are underperforming by five goals, which isn’t particularly alarming for a side in their current situation, though it does show that there are improvements to be made at both ends of the pitch.

Everton can take momentum into the new campaign

While there may not be anything material to play for at this stage, momentum and mentality can still be crucial at this stage of the season.

The Toffees cannot afford to let their levels drop, and need to ensure that they end the season on a high where possible.

Moyes’ side have some tough encounters remaining, though none of them are beyond the possibility of securing three points.
