Shearer blown away by what Lineker said about Everton on MOTD – ‘Incredible’

David Moyes continued his remarkable transformation at Everton with a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Blues secured victory at the City Ground (12 April) through an Abdoulaye Doucoure strike in the dying embers of the contest.

The Scotsman looks set to end the season strongly ahead of a summer rebuild before the move to the new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium.

Moyes sensational Everton run continues

Moyes has shocked observers since his Everton return, completely changing the Blues’ fortunes and dragging them away from the relegation zone.

The Scotsman guided his side to a nine-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, which was only ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Liverpool (2 April).

However, his team have bounced back in spectacular fashion to record a draw with Arsenal (5 April) and the victory over Forest, which left Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer stunned.

Speaking on Match of the Day (12 April, 22:49 pm), he said: “I mean since he has come back to Everton, they have only lost two in 13.

Shearer responded, saying: “Incredible.”

Everton need to back Moyes in the summer

Moyes’ impressive run since returning to the dugout at Goodison Park has shown what this Blues side was truly capable of.

The 61-year-old has the Toffees dreaming of securing European qualification next season but if he is to achieve that, he needs to be backed significantly by the Friedkin Group.

The Merseysiders need to start turning draws into victories as while their recent form has been a world away from the misery under Sean Dyche, they have won just five of the 11 in which they have not dropped points.

Moyes needs to be given the license to turn the squad around, especially in the attacking areas as the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jack Harrison and Dwight McNeil have struggled to impress, mostly as a result of injuries.

Even Beto, who looked to have turned a corner under the Scotsman when he notched five goals in the same number of matches, has fallen off the boil and has now not scored in his last six.

It is an exciting summer on the blue half of Merseyside with the move to the new stadium and the potential for an overhaul of the playing squad; whether the club get it right remains to be seen.
